birth defect?

Its a birth defect. I have encountered it personnally a few times. In fact, i recently have a pup without a tail, just a stump where the tail is supposed to be.

QUESTION, if you have a ray with a defect like this, would you allow it to breed?

In my opinion, I would not. But I would like to know what others think & why.
My reason is I don't think defective genes should be passed on, all though I feel the living animal capable of a life can survive should be cared for and not destroyed.

I say why not. Humans have clefts....should we stop them from having children? Of course not. I dont know if will trickle down to the pups and if it wants to breed, let it.

Pretty sure it has more to do with embryo development and less to do with recessive genetics.. it shouldn't pass onto offspring. However, a defective ray may have a harder time eating, conditioning, and bulking up in preparation for breeding.
