Birth delay, 5 days

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unfortunately I don't. This is one of the biggest fears around ray keeping IMO. It is for me at least. Good luck to you and her Proximus.
Ah okay. I can imagine it being a real bummer given the price and beauty of stingrays

i would sacrifice pups in a second if it meant saving the momma - But that's just me

Stupid question but is there a vett that might be able to help you?

c section - no real info but its possible

there i am sure you have seen video's similar to this

Thanks for your concern everyone. I keep a scalpel on top of the tank now, ready to do a c section if she actually dies when i am home - or if i see the need to put her down (she have started to curl a bit today...). In that case - if i am able to do it shortly thereafter - i guess there could be hope to save a pup or two.

I have made phonecalls to two different aquarium parks but non of them could provide help. Also i have made calls to vet`s but no luck there either.

I do not feel comfortable to start messing with things i have no experience with,- sedate, cut, and stitching.

I watched mine take her last breath... but difference was she was fine one day stopped eating then dead in 2 days... yours is doing better than that!
The min. mine died I pulled her out and cut her and baby was dead... it was partially decomposed already.

The pup was fully developed and looked healthy... just died or got stuck and died..
When it started decomposing it killed the Mom. Definitely not something you want to do to your pet! It was difficult to do. But hoped I could save a pup.

I had to take her out of her misery. She started to curl up all the way around her disc, and started to get red underneath. I knew it was a lost cause at this point so i called for some help to get her out of the tank, end her life, and do a quick c section. Turned out there was at least two more pups in there but they where long gone. One of them was actually almost completely decomposed and it was bearly possible to distinguish it from the rotten materials in there. It was a mess and it reeked so bad i had to take a few short pauses while searching for life in there. Before we pulled out the dead pups - me and the guy who helped me where probably close to getting stunged by the pup`s barbs several times, couse we worked on such a high gear, went all in with our fingers trying to find something living.

Well, so the mother obviously got poisoned from the dead pups inside of her. This is a absolute devastating tragedy. At the more early stages i tried my best to get hold of someone with expertise on this, maby also someone who actually would know how to do c section on aquatic animals, but no luck.

At least she was able to leave something before she left - one healthy and great looking female pup.

I'm not sure who it was but not to long ago they were talking about losing a pregnant female and thought the cause was still born in the belly

Sorry about that loss.... Really is an awful thing watching them die... Her blood lives on!

Very sorry man.
