bit of a problem

Hey guys!!!

Thanks for the awesome replys!

I think I may try the tetra or danio idea. I am not reAlly a huge fan of pairs for the simple fact of simplicity. I have thought and considering i have 160gals of filtration in the tank i could probably overstock so to speak.

But i think i love the idea of a large salvini in a tank with lots of little "friends". I will be sorting out the decoration for the tank in the next couple of days and adding some new fish too.

If i will be adding any more CA cichlids i do not want to add any large ones for the sake of space. I was thinking somthing like firemouths, nicaraguan parrots, blue acara and a convict. Then i would like to add a rainbow shark and three or so clown loaches

I will follow this up!

Thanks for the replys.

Your fish mix won't work. I would recommend doing more research, and take our advice a little more seriously, before adding those other fish you listed.

For example; out of your list of fish, only the Clown Loaches are likely to survive.

If you follow our advice, you can have a nice mixed tank, but if you only add a few other fish, they will be killed off, just as you already found out. Please don't repeat your first experience.

By no meansdo i enjoy fishing out a carcass of a fish that had just cost me $30.

Bearing in mind in the tank as itstands at the moment there is next to no hiding places. This could be the cause of the deaths.

So you think i should keep it asa species tank? With just a few schooling fish aswell?

I like the idea of that, but i am worried for the fate of them. As this fish at 3" will attack the glass if i walk in the room.

He will kill the schooling fish very quickly, also.

Do what we tell you, and you will be fine. (Plenty of hiding spaces, take him out first, and put a bunch of other fish in (Not just a few) and then put him back in after a week or so.

If you don't enjoy fishing out carcasses, then follow our advice :)

A mix of cichlids would be good - but they need to be more robust and of similar aggression. Some examples: Convicts, Texas, Green Texas, Red Devil/Midas, Jaguars, other Salvinis, etc - but again, you have to think about the size of the tank, and also MANY hiding places.

Your signature says you breed V. fenestratus / FH's? Those would work too.

Mm i need to updatethat!!!!

I do have a couple of marbled fenes but they are an odd couple... They are on hold at the moment to be sold. I have to bring it down to only one tank now so in pretty devastated....

Okay thanks, i shall take that into account.

Put in a bunch of hiding places that he cannot fit into and throw in some Convicts or Sajicas for Cichlid Tankmates.

If not, you really don't have much options because you don't want to overcrowd a 75 gallon with cichlids that get bigger than him. Your tank wouldn't support it.
