oh ya being in the marines. iget up at 4 and run and since im a tanker i work tell like 6 or 7. ya and then i come home hating my life and get drunk. and my wife dosnt really take care of them. so im always drunk when i work on my tanks it makes it fun

LOL

gets tireing after a while

I get the what the heck am i doing with all these tanks time to time infact i've sold off at least 7 grand worth of tanks and equipment over the years just to do it again its really frustating for me because of an accident that left me with a partial handicap crushed my ankle and foot last year and i live in a apt with a sunken livingroom so trust me its no fun trying to change the water in my tanks but in between I sit back and enjoy the job well done and forget the frustration involved .

Yeah...I know the feeling. I actually down sized from 7 tanks and a pond to 2 tanks (75g & 20g), but I'm thinking of building the pond again. This time, I want to make it tropical and throw my boyz in there and keep one in the 75g tank.

Like Repair said, you have to streamline the maintenance. We own fish to admire, watch and interact with, not so we can suck poo out of a tank, change water, test parameters, prepare food etc. Although those things can keep it interesting its not what you want to be doing day in day out!

The first I thing I think about when setting up a new tank is how I can minimise the task of taking care of it whilst at the same time making it as comfortable as possible for its inhabitants ;) Spending a little extra time and effort in the set-up can save you your sanity later on!

I try to set aside an hour or 2 on a weekend just for water changes and maintenance on my tanks - if something out of the ordinary needs doing it generally takes a bit longer. I also keep an eye on little things during the week and do anything that may need urgent attention when its needed. there should not be a lot of work involved if things are set-uyp properly, but I dont have anywhere near as many tanks as some on this forum! :D

Fish keeping is not my only time consuming hobby unfortunately so I dont have a great deal of time I can dedicate to it.

On my big tanks I used to use 2 siphons to get the water out. :grinyes:

Whoa! thats big boy drainage right there.

Steve - ive got my shortcuts... continuous drip is not an option right now. I have all the shortcuts available .. believe me , if it was too much work, i wouldnt be doing it every 3 days, not counting the other 2 tanks.

Its just that you get to the point that everything feels like a chore and i just want to know if you guys feel the same and what do you do if you get the water change and feeding "blues"

D- yeah i have to take the shell out sometimes because i chop it into smaller pieces .
But i like how you put it in the ref so its all thawed out the next day.

Personally,I am only six months into this hobby. Whenever it does seem like work instead of a hobby I just remember how much I enjoy just sitting and watching my fish.I find it very relaxing after a tough day.
