Bite force overrated?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wonder why we never questioned this in the past. They nip at each others fins, sometimes holding on taking a ride. The constant nipping does more damage than the bite and hold method lol

When I had my 18” endli. It couldnt bite through four inch SD. I posted a pic here. It would hold them long enough though and bite over and over to where stress would kill them.

Yeah overrated for sure

Do bichirs have pharyngeal jaws? Many fish just hold food with their visible jaws, and cut and chew with a second set, in their throat.
C Chicxulub would know if they have them.

Polypterus possess a rudimentary pharyngeal food processing structure, having teeth in their branchial arches, primarily the fourth. This isn't a full pharyngeal jaw such as is seen in morays, but rather a step toward the evolution of the pharyngeal plates found in most teleosts. It is an interesting physiological adaptation that reminds us that these fish truly are an ancient lineage that has managed to survive to modern times.

Funny. In the bite thread they're trying out everything under the son. Even grabbing a high dollar stingrays. They seem so docile in your videos
