Don't apolagise. Your the customer, you make it possible for them to stay in business, you feed them and theire families, you put theire children through school. They should order fish for you, it should never have been a problem in the first place. how do they stay in business without special orders?
As for the stand, if its broken, don't give a second thought, they dont pay for it, the fish food company pays for it. So the LFS is at no loss. take the discount, you have deserved it.
I say congratulations on standing up for your rights as a customer.

:thumbsdow I disagree with most of what you have to say, theo. have you forgotten that etiquette might be different here in the states? Cause im pretty sure etiquette is different down under!

Etiquette was thrown out the window when they decide to give special orders to certain people ie: whoever is rooting the staff. if a business wants to be successful it will take the customers wants and needs into consideration and not be biased on who is given certain privalges such as special orders. You can say that in the states your all etiquitte and we aren't in Australia, but i know for a fact that i can order anything (within legal limits) from my LFS no problems and in return for this i am a curtious and hassle free customer. i can guarantee that if I were told no special orders full stop and I saw first hand someone else special ordering, i would have acted in the same manner.

Um, no offense, Theo, but throwing a temper tantrum is nothing to be proud of. I think his LFS showed great poise in extending the peace offering. I think the OP should then be a man and apologize for losing his temper, accept the peace offering and make nice. I am sure the OP could have gotten essentially the same thing by talking calmly with the manager.

I assume that the LFS either changed policy recently on ordering fish or someone who didn't know the policy allowed the order to be placed. I could be wrong. I doubt any sane store owner would turn down a guaranteed sale to a serious hobbiest who has most likely dropped thousands at his shop.

Discount: take it. Yes, the store is there to make money, but they will still do so with the "discounted" fish. Remember that unlike normal orders, it is a guaranteed sale, they can fix the price with the knowledge it will be discounted, and they don't have to pay for the care and upkeep of that particular order. It's a WIN for all parties.

To sum up: take the discount, make nice, and keep on keepin' on.

Yup, I agree with Merbeast.....just apologize about the fit that was thrown and do take up their offer regarding special requests, cause the fact that u chose to do that and not completely quit going to the LFS will more than make up for whatever they discount you on your buy over the longer term with your loyality towards that LFS....just remember to take a long deep breath before u go off again under any circumstances, least u feel the way u feel now about this incidence.......just my 2cents.

Excellently put.

I think he had every right to be upset about what happened. It is a public store and no one should be given privilege over another for no reason. An apology is probably in order for knocking over the food however what the store did was not right.

ummm. . . . a store is a private business. they have every right legally to do whatever they want, as long as they are not doing anything illegal and they do not discriminate against customers based on race or gender. of course, things that they choose to do may cause them to lose business, but that it their option. if they wanted to make a rule that only employees (and their friends and family) could special-order fish, they have every right to make that rule. whether or not it is good business practice is a whole different matter. i don't think you would be complaining about one person being given special treatment over another if you walked into your LFS and they decided to give you 10% off that day because you're a good customer. stuff like that happens all the time.

Today i was in a real bad mood(kids and wife totally pissed me off all day!!)So i went to my LFS(as stated in another thread)as i walked in the door i hear another customer thanking the clerk for the fish he ordered last week and was just picking up today. After being told no so many times that they could not special order me fish, this really pissed me off!!I walked up to the manager and just went off on the kid!!Asking him if he knew long i had been a faithful customer and how much money i had spent thru the years there, well this kid(who i did kinda have a friendship with)looked like he was about to pee his pants.Finds out the customer who ordered the fish was one of the clerks botfriends or something like that and it was his 1st purchase there ever.I was so angry that i could hardly talk, well i told the manager that he could take every fish in the store and stick em up his butt.As i stormed out of the store i bumped into a fish food stand and knocked the whole thing over.Well 3 hrs later i get a call from the LFS,i figure they wanted me to pay for damages or were banning me from the store, but it was just the opposite i was told anytime i wanted to order a fish they would and i would even get an employee discount(wich i am not an employee)But i am confused,i got so mad that i vowed never to go there again, but all the other LFS around here suck!!Plus i am embaressed. What would you do??:screwy::confused:

Beb,
Gotta watch those bad days - they are ridiculously notorious for escalating into even worse situations. I had a nasty one yesterday when I got my court summons in the mail. I cured that with 400 watts of music blowing through a pair of Sony headphones and some cold one(s) backing it up. Better that than taking my racing kart and doing the Kartvader.com thing, which, trust me, I have contemplated. Things like that are not good at my age.

I agree with almost everyone here. They (LFS) obviously discussed it and gave you a call. That's cool. No mention of the food stand. Cool again. They didnt press the silent alarm. Way cool. There's your open door - take it. I would go back, apologize, bring them a beer and set it right. Both of you, showing much respect to one another, may actually work out better than expected.

Yeah, that store may not have been great to you before, but they are really acting professional and courteous now. I think most stores wouldn't offer the olive branch like this. Apologize for knocking the food around and take the discount--and now both of you are better off.

Everyone has bad days. I'm a teacher and sometimes I see it in my kids...I go in my "steer clear of them" mode when I see that.
