Gluck G...keep us updated!!!

I don't think it's breeding marks but just a nippy male ray. The male may stop with time or he just may be a little bugger. Keep an eye on it for awhile and seperate if it continues or if the new ray won't eat.

I agree, although once they start to enlarge it happens pretty quickly (at least in my case) So i would give him just a month to three months before he is mature. Did you feed more then usual? He might have felt like she ate all his food and there was nothing left for him. I left my rays for one weekend (3 days 2 nights) once before and when I cam back the female had a pretty good bite out of her disc, the male was a grumpy butt when he got hungry. Just keep an eye on them and keep them well fed to lower aggression.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

His claspers are nowhere near as large in proportion to the his body like in the pics above.

I have not seen him bite her.

There are 4 large bichirs (1 endli, 3 ornates) in the tank as well as 2 8-9" niger cats and 2 10" giraffe cats in terms of bottom dwellers.

There are 4 dats who haven't shown any interest in the rays.

2 pbass between 10-12". They have shown no interest in the rays.

1 RTG who hasn't shown any interest or concern over the rays.

If I were to suspect one fish, it would be the largest ornate. He's a grumpy sob, but onyl towards the other ornates.

Why do I think it is the male ray? Because he has remained unscathed since being placed in the tank. If it were another occupant, I would think the male would have been bitten already as well.

He is well fed. The female eats a quarter of what the male eats.

She has no new bites today.

One thing I did notice when watching them last night is how one of the giraffe cats was using both rays as a scratch pad for about 20 minutes. The f****r was targeting the rays specifically, so the cats are going to be moved in to a different tank. I already knew that giraffe cats can be annoying towards rays and I now know how.

Male rays or rays in general for that matter do NOT have to be sexually mature to cause bite marks. Some are just naturally aggressive IMHO.

I hear ya. She certainly is not shying away from him. I often see her drape herself on the male. She may be annoying him herself.

Well, I did separate her not long after this. She is currently living with my chilli red aro. All the tissue has regenerated but not the markings on the disc where she was bitten. I'm hoping to get her in with the pair in the bigger tank soon. :)
