My guys are well fed and they seem to school around the tank often. I know fins get bitten during feeding or whatever but do they grow back? I got one with a decent sized piece missing from his rear tail fin....

Thanks

Yes fish fins do grow back if they're just bitten or nipped by another fish. My fish's fins usually grow back in 1-2 weeks so it's a very speedy process. Just watch out for aggression from your schooling fish when feeding, and make sure to check for other wounds if your fish seem to get hostile towards each other during feeding because sometimes they will also get hit by other fish.

What fish got nipped? What what did the nipping. Fish will usually nip the pectoral fins so if they're biting the tail then that's pretty severe aggression

Sorry I should’ve mentioned I have 7 red bellies. Normally they seem to be fine when just swimming around the tank. I don’t notice any weakness from the one who got bit or any aggression until the feeding frenzy happens. But it doesn’t appear any of them are being targeted when feeding unless it’s happening at night

how big is the tank?

IME piranha have a level of hierarchy but it’s quite loose. They are always on the lookout for a weak member and if not well fed will pick on the weakest. That said, if kept fed and stimulated fins and tails should heal just fine. Nips and bites are reasonably common if they get too exited when feeding so don’t try to excite them when feeding ( although they can sometimes manage to themselves). 7 off 9-12” red bellies (or larger) could be a challenge in a 125. Good luck!
