I kept the water crystal clean trying to avoid infection. The cut wasnt very deep and it seemed to be only the gill was exposed slightly. I guess We will never really know. (unless i send him to north mission road)

what sort of gill damage did he have? was it like gill curl?
Sorry for your loss mate and I can understand the way you are feeling at work right now.
Wild caught fish can be more fragile than we sometimes think especially in regards to the levels of stress they can tolerate not having being accustomed to shipping, handling, netting and the exposure to tanks and people.
One day your in your native river with known dangerous and stresses the next your in a totally alien stressful new environment.
You guys in the States are so lucky that you have people like Jeff who can bring and offer true enthusiatists like yourself an opportunity to own and raise such fish.
In Australia owning wild caught Cichla is an unrealalistic dream but I love the fish I do have and really enjoy reading about people like yourself on MFK.
P..S. Not your new Cichla dying though mate.......you know what I mean...
Cheers
Ramesh.
