So I went to my buddy's house the other day and say theses black acaras and they looked awesome. So the next day I went to the fish store and picked 3 up. they are around 1 inch so they are not showing much color. So I want to see how many people have them and lets see your pictures of your black acaras.

I have been keeping an eye out for some of these but haven't found any yet. I know they are quite common but I sure like them. Do you have any pics?

Here's an old male that I had. I'm not sure which species he was. There are several species that are often referred to as "port cichlids," "port acaras," or "black acaras." Some are very drab and others have beautiful colors/iridescence.

I had these fish as babies and grew them out until about 4", then I had to get rid of them. Two years later I went back to the LFS that I took them to and they still had this one there. No one ever bought him and they put him in a community tank. I brought him back home and kept him until he died.

My experience is that they're extremely peaceful to tankmates but can be very nasty toward one another. Mine lived with angelfish, severums, and Laetacara.

I'm thinking of putting one in my 110gal with a severum and cuban. Hopefully that will work as they are all quite small yet and my cuban seems quite peaceful so far.

Black port/black acara is usually used for Cichlasoma bimaculatum ... so if you search under that you might find more info/pics.

My black acaras are only about a inch big so you really cant tell what they are so im not going to post any pics until they are a little bigger
