Hi all,
I am an owner 14" green aro and I've planned to buy new 261 gallons tank for her. The other fish i am planning are motoro and hystrix rays.

There are several questions:
1. Is it posible to keep green and black together? Black Aro's are about 16" and there are four blacks in one tank (tolerate each other).
2. How many Aro's (especially blacks) I can keep with my green in 261 gallon tank?
3. Can you give me any propositions how to organize tank for aro's and rays?

Thx 4 all advices

the black and green would probably depend on the greens aggression.
usually blacks and silver are more mellow then asians.
personally i think 261 is more then enough for a few arrows.
3. black back and sand always looks nice and maybe throw in a few driftwood.

welcome.

I agree with the setup tong proposes since rays like the sand and need swimming space on the bottom and the same goes for the aros on the top.. so, 261 gallons.. what foot print? if 2mx07x07 then MAYBE 3 aros and 3 rays.. if 3mx045x045. no aros and no rays.. width is more important then length.. and you will need a pretty massive filtration to keep the water as good as you need it to be.

the amount of fish that people say you can keep in a tank will vary.. some say a 180 will provide for life (usually people with 180s) some say around 300 (I say that sounds fairly reasonable, but then again I have a 300) some say no tank will ever be big enough for life.. I would dare try a black in a 261 gallon tank for life depending on footprint..

The tank will be 230cm long 70cm beam and 60cm tall. I am going to install Fluval Fx5 filter wchich is enough to 405 gallons (acc. to producent).

that is a great footprint!! yes, but you should never filter for the amount of water you have, filter for the fish you have. the fx5 is from what I have heard a GREAT filter but the manufacturer has taken these numbers under optimal conditions and will probably not count on you having monster fish. I'd go with at least 2 fx5s and some smaller canister to. and not even that is sure to be enough for your fish.

What about green and blacks? Would it be work if I will put them into tank in the same time together? What about a few ground cleaners like geophagus red hed tapajos or something like this?

Im gunna tell you right off the bat, that tank will not fit a motoro for life, and definitely will not fit motoroS. It might be able to fit a hystrix, but best to get alteast a 300 gallon.

green might kill black thats all i can tell you

Whoops almost forgot about the arowana part, greens have been known to be agressive, might kill your black. But my main consern is, only a true hystrix could fit in that tank, a motoro definitely will not.

you are aware that his footprint is better than most 300s right? its 8 feet x 2,5 feet x 2 feet..

I know the recommendation is 48" for a motoro but seriously, how many 30" motoros have you seen on this site? most people here keep them in 180 - 220s and do you really think he will have a hard time selling a motoro that wont fit a 2.5 feet wide tank? :D ;) I'd be pretty happy to take that of his hands :D

and yes, there is a possibility your green can get rough with your blacks..
