Besides a black looking really nice at a young age and not having the drop DE effect what are the other benefits of black because to me it looks just like a Silver at adult and which one would you prefer? Thank You for your time :D

There really are no benefits. Some will say the black is slower growing and doesn't get as big, but I'm not convinced this is true. As for the black and silver adults looking the same, well maybe to the untrained eye. IMO though they are obviously similar black aros definetly have a different look then a silver.

i prefer my high shine silver

People like them because they're rarer, and will command a higher price. Along with the lack of drop eye.

The no DE is huge in my opinion.

I personally would never own a Silver unless i could come across a high-shine one like Hau's and BOTR's. I just really dislike the DE as it makes the fish look so dumb to me, but i'd get over it if it had that high shine...

If i had the tank space, i would definitely spend the extra for the black aro, over a silver.

Blks do grow slower.. much slower..

you can tell the difference when adults.. but i've seen a 24" blk before in person.. and as all South american arowana get bigger and older.. they all get ugly and deformed...

But blks are nice when young.... and yes.. they are rarer...

We'll see with this new batch of blacks I got, but I had a baby black go from 2.5" to 9" in four months. Not exactly slow growth. Seems hao has had decent growth from his black.

wow.. thats pretty fast....

I want to try out another blk then... but at the moment.. have a bit too much... a jardini at 6" is housed in a 60gallon and an african 3" in a 10 gallon grow out...... but blacks are cheap at the moment too..... sigh....:(

Other than that the Blacks don't get the DE... they also don't grow as fast and don't grow as big as silvers do when fully grown... all in lenght, height, and width.
To me they definitely do NOT look totally the same when fully grown, mainly because of their coloration. But i like BOTH!

Black aros can get DE, though it is very rare.
