the rock...671!!!
around what size do black aro's colors start fading into the fins? i'm planning on getting one soon.

As far as I know, Black aros are born with a "Pinguin suit" and then as soon as they begin to grow the color begins to wash out toward the fins. You can expect color changes to start by the time the fish is 3 inches.

One thing to be aware of, If your aro has a yolk sack when you buy it, the father was most likely killed and the babies were taken from him. 1, you shouldn't support fish taken in this manner, 2 they are harder to raise then aros that are allowed to grow naturally.

Penguin suit lasts about 2 months after the yolk sac before it starts to look like a silver with nicer fins.

cool, thanks for the info...went back to my LFS, but the black aro was sold...sucks...they only had one too. he was only around 3in. and very thin. yeah, aro's with yoke sacks are bad business...the first silver aro i bought around 6 years ago had a yoke sack, there very fragile at that stage

What do you think of the blue tinge some black's get?

The blue tinge is just part of their juvenile coloration. They grow out of that around a foot or so. They still have a slightly different body color from a silver, but unless you keep them side by side (like me) it would be hard to tell.

One local lfs is trying to tell me it's a different strain with the blue tinge they are selling a 7'' black aro for 499$ I laughed @ him and told him to lay off the glue!!

I don't know the age/size of this one but the color is nice, the picture is from M.Landines
