x2, i thought you said you researched, if you did why the HECK are you feeding sinking foods to a new top dweller????:screwy:
There's nothing wrong with feeding an aro sinking foods, my 8-9" silver prefers frozen blood worms to other foods and sometimes, it will even swim to the bottom to get them.

Read it was a NEW aro. Hard enough to get them to eat foods that are floatinjg near them on the surface, let alone sunken food rotting on the bottom.

What are you planning on feeding your aro once it's 2 foot long?

Stop feeding the blood and black worms, he can only eat what you put into the tank. If you don't get it eating pellets now, it is likely it never will.

Easier said then done. I've two rays in there that I have to feed.

I know this post wasn't referring to me, but all the food he's eating is fresh and hasn't hit the bottom yet. Once it hits the bottom the rays eat it.

So, the recommendations of keeping the arowana solitary aren't just for the protection of the fish, but also so you can raise it properly. The longer you go without getting it trained on pellets the less likely it will ever eat pellets.

That's true. I'm getting another tank soon, I'll try and work with him in there. At least he ate a krill last night.

Make sure you have right temperature.
You should keep your new black aro in another tank alone first until it can eat well.
I gave my baby blk aro small cricket in the morning, then gave it pellets in the night.
Blk aro is a timid fish, do not stand in front tank after you feed it.
Good luck!!

For the first week or two I would throw food in and then leave. When ever anyone was in the room in general he'd go to the back corner of the tank. Lately he's been coming right to the front whenever I'm by the tank and doesn't seem to move to the other side when anyone else is in the room. When I throw the food in now he eats it as soon as he can.

Good news. I through a piece of krill in a few minutes ago and the Aro ate it like a champ. He actually ate 2 of them. :) That was the first time I've seen him eat anything that was floating on the top.
