Black Aro vs. Silver Aro?

Great post. I've seen Jar's and Silvers together. From your post, are you saying that Jar's and Silvers can't get along together, or specifically that Jars and Black Aro's can't get along together?

I think the two biggest reasons for seeing more silvers with jars are-

jars and silvers are the two cheapest aros- when the jar tries to kill its tankmates, its 10x better for it to kill a $10 fish rather than a $100 fish-

the second reason, is inch for inch the silver is a way beefier and more substantial fish than the black- the blacks toughen up after the baby stage, but the leanest silver will still literally be pounds heavier than the stoutest black-

Raising something with a jardini won't make it tolerate it as it gets older. It's a case by case basis, but the majority of jardinis will kill all tankmates when they hit the 8" mark, for some 10". It would suck for you to wake up one day to a dead black aro.

Black aros require basically the same care as silvers, even the same sized tanks, since both reach around 4'.

When they get much older, most silver aros turn almost white, and they become beefy. Black aros retain their dark pigmentation and remain mostly slender (in comparison to silvers). Most retain black coloration at the very tip of their fins for the duration of their lives.



Some blacks can still get DE. It is rare, but it happens.

May be true, but if it was compared to a silver of the same length it would look quite slender.

I'm sure there is no chance of you posting a pic of this 3' black aro, is there?

The aggressiveness depends on the individual, blacks are generally less skittish but more cautious. My two blacks have grown to be very outgoing tough.QUOTE]

Never kept a Silver but my Black was very nervous and skittish until it hit the 12"/13" mark. Dont see any aggression in him but i agree he is a tough fish!
