after reading up on the stunning black arow it seems the correct pH needed is between 6.5- 7. my tapwater is pH 8. will a black adjust to this pH like some other fish do?

i would love to own one but at £150 - £200 i wanna know im not wasting my money and killing a fish through not researching its care properly.

any help on this appreciated thanks

i have my black aro in 7.8-8ph range. i think as long the ph stays consistent it should be fine

imo, pH really doesn't matter for most fish, as long as it isn't at an extreme level. A black aro should be fine in a pH of 8, just make sure you acclimate it slowly.

You may want to consider this, ammonia is much more toxic in high level pH then the acidic water which these fish come from. So while they may be able to adapt to the high ph, a small ammonia spike could cause significant problems or even kill them.

well its around 8 - the hagen watertest kits i use have colour charts- they arent exactly accurate lol!

i saw two at the lfs where their whole system runs on the same water - i doubt they change the pH of their water. i do 30-50% water changes weekly so the ammonia shouldnt pose a problem.

my stingrays are perfectly fine and growing well so i imagine a black arow should be fine also

thanks for your help guys!!!

Assuming for $150, the black is 6" or bigger. Big black aros are fine with high pH and aren't as fragile as the babies.

at my lfs they have 2 blacks for £200 - if memory serves me right they are roughly 6"+

good deal or not? the main reason for getting one is the fact they aely get DE. ive read they end up looking like silvers once mature and dont grow as large either (giving me more room to add something else!)
