Why not, a farm sells the normal black arowanas produced and keep the ones that retain most of the black color for breeding. Here in the USA without access to legal Asian Arowanas a Black Adult Black Arowana would be Rock Star good.

Ya right why not? It's not like they are in the business to make money or anything.

Of Course you still overlooking the fact that nobody has ever seen an adult black that is all black with a yellow racing stripe :duh:

Maybe not with the yellow stripe. However, I have seen some sub adults that looked more black than most. I would be good with an all black arowana. Plus an all black adult Black Arowana would sell for a fortune.

It's called "melanistic" black arowana. It a gene pigment mutation that turns it to have a black color, Just like albinos and leusistic which have white color.

As Bderick67 said you won't be able to find an adult black aro with a juvenile coloration.

There are some photos from last year of an adult black or melanistic black arowana out of Peru somewhere on the web. I did not know were to find the pictures however the fish was really neat.

Seems if an arowana breeder found a way to block the genes in black arowanas that changes juvenile arowanas to adult coloration that they could produce an adult with juvenile colors.

Probably easier to just spray paint the aro black.:grinno:

Yeah probably would be easier to spray paint the arowana black.
