Black arowana agression....Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think, 2 more big black (or silver) aros are rather not possible to keep in my 255 gallon tank. Do not you think?? I am ready to release cichlas in place of aros...

What do you think about it?
What would you do if you were in my situation?

You can see my tank here: http://forum.arowana.pl/index.php?topic=40.0

Thx 4 your help

LOL I can't read polish, but looks like your tank is 230 x 70 x 60 cm (90x27x24"). That will be a bit small for your 3 aros once they are 24 plus inches. The Pbass will eventually have to go as tems get huge.I would recommend just keeping a single black in your tank, or eventually up grading to a wider, at least 120cm tank.

As for the aggression now, you can only try different things. Feeding, feeding schedule, water temp are a few things you can try alteringand may or may not work. You may also try throwing in a bunch of plastic floating plants. This will both give the weaker aro some cover as well as break up line of sight with the other two. Other then that I don't now what else to suggest.

lower temp, dim the lights maybe?

hao has probally the best advice. my community doesnt really fight, except when they get hungry.

i know this because i only see lifting scales after i come home on sunday, and no one has fed them on saturday night

It is rather not possible to set bigger tank in my flat. Maybe in the next 2-3 years when i will build a house. Is my tank is really to small for 3 black aros?
They are smaller then silver...

My temp is 24 degrees C - is it possible to decrease more?

I think that idea with surface plants (and dimming lights) could be good, becouse as i had said before when the light is off (althought the light in room is on) they are swimming together like in the best company.

I feed my aros and cichla handly then it is low probability that they are hungry.

Which surface plant will be the best? Maybe ceratopteris? What do you think?

throw in a jardini then that dominating black will go ressesive lol joking. well then you can find that the one getting punked is not going to be as healthy as the others.

Silver aros really have no bearing here. If cared for properly your black aros will get well over 30" inches long. I believe that once your aros are about 24" your tank will be too crowded.

My opinion is based on the two 27-28" silver aros and 24" black aro that I keep. They are together in a 450g 8'x3'x30" tank and it often seems to be too small for the three of them.

My temp is only 24 C. I will try feed them more and I will give live fish.

I have an idea. I will give abot 50 live fish and i will fully feed p.bass before. If live fish will not decrease agression i will have to try to seperate p.bass for a couple weeks in other tank. What do you think about it?

I feed live fish once a week, and Ive found the arowanas aggression is much worse after theyve had have their weekly live fish dinner, so Im pretty certain, if live fish does change the arowanas attitude, the change will be for the worse

24 C is would make your aros less hungry and they might be more prone to sickness at the temp,i suggest at least 78 F-80 F
