Might be it's diet too. My jardini used to have fin rot that never went away even though i used melafix. When i took him off crickets he healed right away.

he's on foodsticks? should i change his diet?

Yes...you should move him. Isolating a sick fish is always good, if you can do it.

my 2 black aros look like yours that I just bought last week...and i'm using a combo of melafix and pimafix and salt...switching them every other day-one day mela, next day pima etc...can you mix the two together at the same time?

My gars did a number on my aro in one night. Hospital was the is a best investment. My aro healed up in 10 days salt, 80 degrees, melafix and a few guppies. I think by isolating the fish it allows for them to focus energy towards healing rather than having to worry about tank mates capitalizing on thier weakened state. Now my Aro is ready for round 2........... Good luck

the treatment begins :D
had to move out the africans cichlids to a 30 gallon
heated up the tank, threw couple handfulls of salt, and melafix
lets see what happens

water quality and temperature affects black aros much more than other aros and for some reason blacks take longer to heal from a bacteria or parasitic infection. use the melafix and pimafix together until the aro heals.both are considered pretty mild so I don't think they will cause any harm if you were to use them for a couple of weeks. also buy the pond melafix and pimafix it's the same thing but in a higher concentration so you can treat way more water. and keep the temp at 86f at all times even after treatment for the life of the black.
