I am thinking if I should purchase a black arowana. Aside from not having drop eye and being harder to find, what are so special about them?

Sometimes I don't like their skinnier appearance compared to the silver, but I have not seen many pics of black aros before. How big do they get and how fast do they grow?

They are rarer than silvers and more expensive. It is true that they are skinnier and shier than silvers. Also they tend, on growing, which is somewhat slower, IMO, than silvers, to turn silver..

They also are beautifull. there's no 2 ways about it..

they stay smaller than a silver no matter what people say they do stay smaller

if you dont like the slimmer body shape and dont think they are special then dont buy one stick to a silver their not enought black aros around so leave it in the LFS until some who thinks it is special wants to buy it

hears a black aro i kept for 7yrs it was special i was gutted when it died :(

yes, as stated, if you have to ask ( don't get me wrong please ) it's because it is not special for you...

I think the most popular reason to buy them is that you reduce the chances of DE drastically. You get the elegant look of the South American without the defect. In my opinion they are well worth the money for this aspect alone.

Colorwise, I would still prefer silvers in that blacks look rather dull compared to the other--they are not as bright, will look more gray & darker than any other common aros. If you like slimmer body type and nicely tucked in eyes, yeah, you'll surely like them.

Hence the BLACK....they are a great combo when put together with a silver...also if you dont have as much room this fish wont be in need of such a big monster tank, still big but not as....
