wow.. that is slow growth rate... that should be great... i wish i had the tank for a baby blk..
My 20" black aro is a slow grower too, 8 to 9 inches in the 25 months I've had her. What and how much does your black eat? I know mine is very picky and definitely will not stuff itself even if more food is available.
Though rare, black aros can get DE.

scratch that... its actually around 17" 
I feed it pellets, freeze dried shrimp, market shrimp, tilapia, massivore, cockroaches, red meal worms (they come from the lfs red), pretty much anything I throw into the tank. i have notices that hes not interested in the pellets and the freeze dried shimp as much so im using those as staples for the next month and everything else as treats.
i feed him as much as he can eat in one sitting if its everything else but the pellets and the fds because he will grab it before the bichirs can find it. and i only feed those items about once a week to a week and a half. the pellets is about every other day.
