Black Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All arows get/might get drop eye.

nope iv only seen 1 black get DE when iv seen many silvers get it

Is there less of a chance they will get it if there are less fish in the tank??
I am going to buy a baby black soon and wanted to know.

theres like a 1% chance they will get it

Seems there is as many black aros with DE as there are large silvers without DE.

DE in black aros is rare. IMO, tankmates have nothing to do with arowana developing DE

well i got a black aro yesterday. 3 inchs. woke up this morning and he is dead. the fish store said i can return it and get a new one. :)

but i dunno y it died. i guess the tank water was bad. i had my tank cycled with guppies. but then found out the tank got infested with worms again. so had to do a good cleaning. guess im gonna have to drain the water and try put some water from my other silver aro's tank.

Just putting used tank water won't help. You need an actual solid medium that has been populated by the beneficial nitrifying (sp?) bacteria needed for the nitrogen cycle.

Also, I've heard Black Arowanas are extremely delicate and sensitive at that size.

black aros are more sensitive at that size but as it grows it will be just as sensitive as a silver aro...it is thought that blacks and australian aros don't get alot of cases of de because their still mainly wild caught, while silvers and asians are farm for many years and inbreeding has brought out more defects like de. i agree with this thought because it has been proven in other animals.
