black aros are more sensitive at that size but as it grows it will be just as sensitive as a silver aro...it is thought that blacks and australian aros don't get alot of cases of de because their still mainly wild caught, while silvers and asians are farm for many years and inbreeding has brought out more defects like de. i agree with this thought because it has been proven in other animals.

So are you saying there are no wild caught silver aros? If there are wild caught silver aros with DE then this explanation wouldprove to be completely bogus.

not really because i didn't say genetics was the only reason for de. my silver didn't have de until i jumped out at 11". just show some wc silvers with de and documanation that the they never crashed into the side of the tank,jumped into the top/ out of the tank or had some kind of injury that could have caused it. it is impossible to do this so defalting the genetics theory on wc silvers with de is not possible, no one knows the real answer to the de cause. there are hunderds of ideas out there but thats all they are at this point. i have read alot on this topic and the only ones that make sense are injury or a weak jean pool imo. silvers aren't the most de prone..just about every asain aro i have seen has de and they have been farmed the longest inbreeding has alot of bad side affects. until the reason is proven/disproven this debate could go on forever!

Regarding your statement on asian aros...you've seen a very small amount of asian aros.

Less then one percent of mature silver aros posted do not have DE. I would believe that there is a much larger percent of wild caught aros then that. This leads me to believe that the whole weak gene pool idea is rubbish.

Considering it takes 3 years for silver to sexually mature, I don't see a breeder raising fry from the same batch over this period of time. Especially when buying large WC would result in a much quicker product to sell.
