Actually that's not true, sorry. Black aros have a much more narrow build, and droop-eye is a result of captive breeding within a shallow gene pool. I'm actually tempted to say that Rocky's is a silver, but it is tough to say at that size. I don't know ANYONE that has ever seen a black with droopeye, neither have I heard of one having it. The same goes for jardini, africans, and leichardtis, as they're not being captive bred in a large way yet.

bty, i have seen leichardts and jardinis w droop eye.

The droop eye explanation u have is a very daring statement.

Noone has ever had the answer to that prob. Only theories.

And just to add a point. I have 2 captive bred asian aros that have NO droop eye. And i dare say they aren't from a very wide gene pool.

As for the body mass, if the fish was very well fed why couldnt it be bigger?
Not everythng goes by the book.
And your saying that body mass and droop eye isn't a good determination was an even more daring statement. But connect the dots. Aros that havn't been captive bred don't have droopeye, and those that are generally do. It still stands, I havn't ever heard of even a report of black having droopeye. And you're still wrong about the body mass. Blacks have a more elongate skeletal structure, it dosn't matter how well they're fed. It's just a fact. ;)

u cld mistake Rocky's black as a silver... what better proof could there be?

i say it thru what i have seen w my own eyes in real life. Not from documentation.
Hence i dare say that its not entirely true. I can find alot of captive bre aros without droop eye so explain that. In fact not many captive breds have droop eye save for silvers.

Well.. now photo evidence is presented for u to give u proof of a black w droop eye and u dont believe it but stick to reports.

Hence i find that its not much of a point trying to introduce any further info to u as i doubt u will accept anything unless u read it from ur own source of documentation.

Happy fish keeping. :grinyes:

Search for a black aro of an European hobbyist on arofanatics. There is a black aro with a dropeye on one side. Blacks are not entirely bulletproof to this syndrome.

How big do blacks max out at in captivity?? smaller than silvers I have been told? I have a 6x2x2 180 with a juvenile Tigrinus in it all by himslef and think one of these would be a great tanjmate??? Would a Black Aro outgrow a 180?

I have a couple of pix on my phone.....i dont know how to get them to the computer though
