Black arowanas illegal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As usual the LFS is the worst place to get and valid information. If anything the availability of blacks aros has increased and the price has dropped over the last couple years.

why do i even bother listening to these workers..
so im guessing black arowanas arent going to be illegal anytime soon. But why is the price still multiple times that of a silver?

I think it's just basic economics right now that's driving the price up, supply and demand. The rarer the fish, the more expensive it is.

I remember black arows being about $10.00 more expensive than silvers, but this was about 10 years ago. I got back into the hobby just recently and now the price is $100.00+.

From what I've heard(can't validate) it is, has been, illegal to export black/blue arowana from brazil for a few years. This drove up the price of black aros. They are now being exported out of Columbia, this makes them more available and brings the price down.

Capative bread silvers are being imported from asia, so they are cheaper. Again this is all hear say, and I have no way to validate or prove any of this.

i have a Black Aro (my avatar) and i live in NYC, their a bit more sensetive than your silvers, but you can check around to find them. they rarely have them at LFS around NYC, if you know a place let me know :) i wouldn't mind getting another one.
