Black Background and Black Sand???

I use a 5:1 mix of PFS and Tahatian Moon Sand, it gives it a nice color but darkens up the PFS enough to give the entire tank a darker feel.

I have black background and black sand/gravel (eco-complete plant aquarium substrate). Love it. Without the light, tank looks a bit dark, but with light on, it makes fish color more intense ( especially red color fish). I have 2 x 150w metal halide.

i have black sand and black background and im really happy with it...i have african cichlids in it..oh its a 240g.....i had play ground sand in it once before but didnt have the black background...i prefer my current setup.

Here are a couple of pics from an old tank of mine a few years back. I didn't like the black background/black sand look and instead changed to a colored background while still using the black sand.

I'd go with pool filter sand since your background will be black. Also you may want to choose your fish on color with a black on black scheme..........
