Whats the cheapest and easiest way you guys have come up with to get a decent looking black background. i was thinking maybe even a black garbage bag and tape it to the back of the tank, I don't have a show tank but I dont want it looking too tacky either. Maybe like a black tarp or something. What have you guys done? and I dont want it bad enough to paint the back of my tank, because I know thats what some people here do.

May I ask why Not paint it? Its easy and peals right off!

If not what About Vynal - like from a sighn shop or something

The main reason for not painting it is because the back is actually the nicer side (didnt realize til I moved it in and set it up, so in the future (sadly not anytime soon) I plan on spinning it around, so for now if I could I would like an easy temporary black background, if not no biggy, the wall it faces has a rocky look to it so it still looks nice but Id like my filters pipes and cords to be hidden or blend in.

I would do poster board myself. Garbage bag would wrinkle I would think.

poster board might work, ill look into it

$1.99 Aerosol can of black paint is the easiest and can be removed in a matter of minutes without harming the glass side you want to use as a front later. In fact cleaning the paint of would also clean the face of the glass nicely when the time came for it. Other than paint I have used a trashbag, problematic for longer tanks though. You can get the wrinkles go go away with a squeegie (like window tint). There are vynil sheets that just static cling, you can get them in black, but now you are out of the cheap area. I'd go with can of black spray paint. When you want the paint off, cheap bottle of paint thinner or nail polish remover, etc. It'll clean it off in minutes. It'd be on the outside of the tank too, so no harm to fish.
