Black background, cheapest easiest way

doesn't matter if the back side is the best side, paint it black. It's not going to mess anything up if you paint it black and then razor it off. That's the best part of paint and glass, all you need is a razor blade to take it off.

IMO paint is the best background
 
Black plastic landscaping cloth. Its cheep light weight and has a texture that looks good. It also has small holes in it so if any water gets on it it drys fast with out a stain.
 
I did the poster board, turned out pretty well, was easy, and only cost me 2 bucks. Next is to paint my diy canopy black, but sometimes canopies are a pain cause id have to move the lid to feed my fish, but I might as well paint it anyways. by the way there are fish in my tanks lol, they are sleeping and hide at night

i got black spray paint and painted a piece of cardboard. then siliconed it to the back of the tank.

Not a bad idea but this took about 5 minutes and $2s.
 
I'm glad I did it, now you cant see the wires or notice the filter tubes as much, it makes the tank look much nicer
