Well i started my research a bit later than I should have. I bought a 55gal tank alittle over a week ago(first FISH tank) brought it to the third floor apartment I live on and put my sand and water in it. Now that the water is clearing and I did lots of research on tanks I decided I want a black background on the tank. I saw that people have painted/spray painted ect... their tanks and I wanted to know if there is any other ways of making it black. I really don't want to have to empty it and move it back downstairs to paint it outside. I orginally thought that black trash bags cut and taped would work. But im not too sure that would work/look good ect... Anybody got any other ideas for me?

Do you have any space between the tank and the wall? i have painted two tanks while in place with fish. Use a small roller and black paint. I tried the spray paint one time, and I liked the roller method as I got better coating.

You can use a black trash bag or some pet stores do carry a paper black background. Usually blue on one side, and black on the other.

Hope this helps.

What kind of fish are you stocking. Depending on the fish you have a black background can make your fish look dull. I would go with a deep blue that brings out the color in most fish(IMO)

i went really simple painted a piece of cardboard black its nice because its rigid unlike paper and the plastic background which suck in my opinion because you cant really get them on right with the tank full and they are a pain to put on if you have no help

I bought a piece of black fabric and hung it on the back of the tank, works great.
