Black Backgrounds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been painting for years and IMO spraying is the only way to go. As long as you can do it outside. It's the only way to absolutely insure an even cover with no brush or roller marks.

I have a black background, you can buy them at most aquarium stores now, but mine came with one of my used tanks. They should beable to cut the size you need.

Okay then........ thanks for all of the ideas. I guess a lot of it is common sense, which I'm obviously lacking.:screwy: I think I'll have to settle with something temporary. I'd rather paint it but if I did it would have to be spray paint, seeing how the consensus is thats the best way to go. Problem is moving this tank outside. I have three lines coming out of the bottom of the tank, every time you move it you risk damaging these seals. Besides, I spent so much hard work on the plumbing, to have to do it again..............................:irked:

i sprayed my 300 and rolled my 90 and my old 120. easier to get it evenly coated with a roller IMO. I like a dark blue vs. black.

I've had small tanks in the past, so usually I've just bought the backgrounds. Isn't a big deal.

Yep, i painted all my tanks black. Krylon rocks!

:iagree: Krylon is the best in a spray can IMO. There are better paints if you have a sprayer, but krylon is a great good for all jobs paint.

If getting it outside is a problem then I would just buy a black back groud as others have already suggested. petsmart and most others sell it buy the foot. It looks just as good as painting it imo.

I agree that a roller is much better than a brush, but nothing is as good as spray to prevent stroke marks that even a roller can create.
If he can't get it outside to spray, i would just forget the paint idea and buy a black background. The is the simplest solution.

i once used black chalk only because you can scrape it off once you want it gone, regular chalk that applies to windows that art store sells
