Black beauty is looking amazing Scot. A very unique looking ray that I can honestly say I have never seen another even similar. Needs to have the right lighting and substrate to show it off properly but.... what a ray!!
Looks amazing in the last two pics.

Much appreciated Richard. I really need to do something with the lighting. She has an amazing pattern that is very hard to see under low light.
Crazy that her pattern still seems to be changing. I believe she is somewhere around 5 years old now.

Looks a lot like my old mutt "Darkness". She was a Hentoro x motoro.

A little lighter in color, but nice pattern.

Any others out there with this type of pattern/coloration?

Even better, do you know the mix? Unfortunately, I do not know the mix of mine.

Mine looked black on white sand. Only decent pics I ever got of her was on a black liner. Maybe yours would look lighter too if on dark substrate.

Mine was captive bred at an aquarium somewhere. Came from John Rare. Apparently siblings in the same litter looked like motoros. Thought he said the mom was henleixMotoro and dad was motoro. She sure ate like a Motoro. One of the meanest ray I ever had. She was only 16-17" across but super thick.

Haven't seen/heard any updates of her since the barb between the eyes that was successfully removed. She was sold to Clearwaterguy.

After hearing about the parents I thought it kind of odd that all of them were being called Mantillas. Maybe just a naturally occurring hybrid?
