LFS has about an 8" black belt, what is there aggresion

I've never owned one but based on what others have said they seem to have a pretty wide range of aggression levels between mild to on par with the worst of 'em. But it sounds like, in general, they're maybe comparable to a Green Terror.

Hopefully someone who's owned one will chime in.

Mine was a pretty mean little sucker. He had no qualms about taking on fish twice his size. Aggression will vary from fish to fish though.

i had one at 4" and he kicked the crap out of every thing else in the tank

he went back to the lfs in 2 days. but they sure are sharp looking fish

Highly aggressive to anything they see as competition. Fish the same size and bigger will be viewed as a threat. My male was 9" and was easily kept with smaller cichlids, such as Rivulatus, Carpinte, Temporalis, and Festae in a 120g. Everything was fine until the Festae hit 6" and challenged the larger Maculicauda who went absolutely nuts and beat the Festae pretty bad. After this happened everyday for a week i decided to sell all except the Festae pair.
Here are some pics.

impressive looking black belt, i had one that was about 2 inches, didn't show much aggression and got :owned: by a 2 inch jag.
