a few weeks ago i went to my local fish store to pick up some water conditioner when i noticed this little black blood parrot. he was the smallest of the group and the only black one. he was getting bullied around the tank so i had to rescue him.
i've heard of people dying fish i was wondering if he was dyed or just has not grown into his color yet. he is about 2inches long.

There you go!!!!!

Yea he was probably dyed. Blood parrots are called blood parrots cause they are red. Although I do have one that has both red and black on it so its not too far fetched.

good looks rob;)
yeah im hoping he is not. im not down with dying fish, although he looks wicked. black with gray stripes

if its not then cool fish i hate when people tatoo the ballon mollys

If it's still small, it's not died. Juvi Blood Parrots are usually a dark greyish green/black when they are small and slowly start to lose that color for an orange/red color as they get bigger. I bought two of them a few months ago, same color and now one has completely lost all its black and is reddish while the other one is developing an orange color around the belly and still has the juvi colors.

Hope this helps!

he will eventually start to fade into a yellow or red color

i got a little black one and his has turned not to yellow or orange but stripes! he looks like a convict and he is the most aggresive of my tank.

blood parrots start off black and molt to the yellow/orange color
