Black Breathing Funny

Well it started 2 days ago with him breathing heavy and not eating. He is still active however his breathing isn't normal and has not ate. I tried adding a second air pump and 24 hours later he is the same. Any suggestions for how to get him to go back to normal or what could be causing this?

whats ur water params? could be a lot of things.

is his mouth openinig and closing more frequently than usual? i agree, check your water param's, aros can be really sensitive to nitrites.

I have to get a new nitrate test kit however ammonia is at 0. I am doing a 50% water change today to see if it helps.

And yes his mouth is opening and closing more often.

I just finished a 50% water change. I added Amquel+ to the water as the conditioner. We will see how he looks when I get home from work.

The only thing that has changed in the past week is the filtration. I added a second FX5 to the tank however the first FX5 has been on the tank for over a month and both have established bio media in them.

add aquarium salt and temp up to 82-84

do u have alot of water current in the tank? do u have a powerhead or an air pump? if no, ill suggest adding them.
