My 75 Gallon (48"x18"x20") is looking pretty empty even though I know it's plenty stocked bioload wise. Right now it holds 6 Giant Danios (3") which I'm debating getting rid of or not, 1 Yellow Bullhead (7"), 1 Gibbiceps Pleco (6"), and 1 Striped Raphael Cat (3.25"). I've been seining a lot of small Black Crappies (around 1") at my local lake lately and I'm thinking I might take one home with maybe a bluegill or two as well. I know I'd have to do more WCs but that's no problem. Also don't worry about the bullhead eating small fish, he's a wimp, didn't touch 0.5" cichlid fry when they were in the tank. What do you guys think, good fish to keep?

I've kept 2-3 inch black crappie before cool fish I would feed mine chopped shrimp, worms and pellets as long as your bullhead doesn't harass it in my experience they're pretty fragile when I introduced some into my tank my striped bass and pike would follow them around at first.

I wouldn't introduce the crappies to the bullheads. Just because he don't touch the cichlid fry, doesn't mean he won't snack on other fish. Often bullheads will attack any newcomers if they are smaller than itself. Won't be surprised if he ends up ate a crappie.

I've never had any luck getting crappie off of live.

I wouldn't keep a bluegill in a 75, too small. I've got 4 and one is 13-14", one is 12-13", and the next is 11-12" at 3 years old. crappies and bullheads both get bigger than bluegill.

Wow those are some impressive gills! Mind sharing some pics :). The crappie and bullhead are both growouts that'll go in a 300G and if they somehow get to big for that they'll go in a 1,500G Pond.

If the crappies survived. Tried keep them in past but I just found out that they won't accept any prepared foods and even they won't accept the frozen foods or earthworms. They are not hardy too.

Alright I'll pass for now then. Maybe next spring after spawn. I thought they were fairly easy to get onto frozen. If not I have an almost endless disease free feeder source.

They're not hard to get off of live food if you get them when they're small i started mine on worms then to shrimp.

Lots of experiences here :). The place I'm getting them they'd be 1-1.5". And like I said I have a very small (newborn guppy fry) feeder source as well as earthworms, frozen brine, and frozen bloodworms ready to use.
