Lots of experiences here :). The place I'm getting them they'd be 1-1.5". And like I said I have a very small (newborn guppy fry) feeder source as well as earthworms, frozen brine, and frozen bloodworms ready to use.

I don't even think mine ever started off on live I caught mine out of a spillway on a piece of worm so that's what I started to feed them. I'm subscribed to you on YouTube and I think your still subscribed to me also I could send you a link to my videos of them eating worms and shrimp if you want proof that they will take non living food.

Yeah I'm subscribed to you. I 100% believe you I was just saying that different people have had different experiences. Ill see whether I'll do it or not.

My experience was opposite to these replies. My crappie ate prepared foods quite well. I had three in a 180 for a while. Cool fish to watch.

A 7" bullhead will likely eat the 1" crappie as soon as the lights are out.

My son and I started keeping crappie for the first time this year. Brought 3 home in the 5" to 6" inch range. We tried them in our 125 with various sunfish, and they got harassed. We lost the 5" to aggression from a much smaller pumpkinseed, so I would not recommend them with a bluegill, or any other lepomis. We have the other 2 in a 55 with a yellow perch and goldfish, they were not hard to get off live food, live worms -> dead worms -> freeze dried jumbo krill. Much easier to feed than the yellow perch.

I like them a lot, nice shape, beautiful pattern, silver that flashes in the light, but they are not very active, pretty much sit around all day waiting to get fed.

My personal experiences with black crappies, even at 1" is complete opposite from others. My crappies refused to touch a frozen bloodworm and my LFS quit stocking feeder guppies so all crappies died of starvation because I can't find any feeders that is guppy sized. That said I am concerned about cichlid fry you left in the tank with the bullhead, the cichlids are most likely will harassing the crappies.

The cichlids are finally gone now.
