K, I'm working on purchasing a 5-7" black devil cat. The thing I know is they are dangerous to other fish. I have a vittatus tigerfish and want to know if they can be put together. Regardless ill be getting one and I have the space but would be nice to put in my monsters tank. My vittatus is 6" and I also have a bichir, payara, and silver arowana all about the same size! What do you all think?

I think it is an explosive mix if you are talking Hemibagrus wyckii. While small, they may do ok (if it's been ok so far). But when they grow up, something will give - probably the bichir and the aro will go first.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking the same too. But really the only fish I'm worried about is my vitattus to be honest. I think its the only cat worth having!! Something about them is scared yet invigorating haha!

Why? Is he very shy?

Well, being a chemist by trade, I can say this statement is consistent with the unusual choice for your nickname :) :) :)

Lol! First let me correct the word scared to 'SCARY'! And thanks for my remarkable nickname :)) its pretty awesome!

The reason Ide be worried about the tigerish is that it is my first favorite fish in the world and it would be detrimental to me if it got eaten, but in that is the irony for all my fish are aggressive in their own ways and is probably inevitable that one of them will die if I keep them all together. I've seen many types of fish together at later stages of their lives but not as juveniles. And I know that the h. Wyckii needs its own space or all hell brakes, probably the reason for its nickname the devil wyckii.

Yep. Adult wyckii will not tolerate any tank mates in a, perhaps, less than 500-1000 gal tank. AFAIK, they have only been successfully combined with other large fish in public-aquaria-size tanks of tens of thousands of gal at least. Juvi wyckii can be timid though and often are. I've had 4 in a 30 gal without any problems. Then I had 2 sub-adults (1.5') in a 4000 gal pond and they have been fine with the other 100 large fishes but not with each other at all. Had to separate.

I've no experience with tigerfishes. Sorry, cannot say much. Hope to acquire some one day.

Well that alone was good advice as any experience is good to hear about. I'm sure if they are lone rangers, he will just have to have his own tank.
Can you tell me the full name of that juvi wyckii? Ide like to do what I can with that too on top of the h. Wyckii.

Sorry. Yes, I get carried away with abbreviations but such practice has its shortcomings too.

This is actually the one catfish I desire to have someday not just for its beauty, but for its personality. It cannot be kept with any other fish. It will not only eat anything, attempt to eat, but also play around to destroy anything that moves in its territory (tank). If you are "working on purchasing" this fish, then I'm sure you've done your homework and answered your own question about this cat. Some year I will have one myself when our current 265g can be used all for this one cat
