But would it help neutralize the sharpness of the blasting sand if mixed?

I knew a guy with motoros that used blasting sand and both rays died. Not sure if that caused it but gills were bloody

I think I have the finest grit. It is still heavy enough to sit at the bottom of the tank without being picked up by the filter. However like I said it works for cichlids. I don't know anything about rays sensitivity.

I won't risk it. I'll just have to find something different

I use this...its pretty cheap at $3-$6 a bag. I dont use much at all, maybe 3-5 small bags for ur tank. Theres alot of similiar brands sold as "marine sand" thats not actually live marine sand lol...it does not cloud the water but its still soft. Ive used it with rays and marine sharks with no issues.

If you want black then just buy small colored gravel, I used it when I first got into rays over 6 years ago.

Considering what rays cost, I've never understood trying to cut corners to save a few dollars...... I wouldn't use sandblasting sand for anything but Cichlids, and that's only cause I hate Cichlids more then anything that lives in water.... lol

3M or Estes Colorquartz, ceramaquartz, Spectraquartz, whatever they are calling this stuff is available if you look hard enough.

I'd start with landscaping outfits to see if they can order you any.... Most frown on shipping costs so it's best to try to find someone local to get it for you....

I try to cut corners because I am it loaded lol I make it paycheck to paycheck. But I'll check that out, thanks!

Silicon free sand is very expensive.
I use fine red flint sand. It's not black but it's cheap. $20 for 100 lbs.
