Black diamond sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just put in my 29 gal about 2 months ago. I didn't rinse it as well as I probably should have, but I filled a 5 gal bucket about 1/4 the way full with the Black Diamond, and rinsed it a few times, then scooped it into the tank. The tank was established and the fish didn't get all that upset by removing gravel and adding the sand. Most of the sand settled out right away, didn't make the water cloudy at all. I changed the pads in my HOB filter the next morning... Quick, easy, and easier to clean than the play sand that I've tried previously. I'm definitely going to use it in my 75, and future setups.

Buy the thickest grain you can, I but a more fine grain by accident, took longer to clean than I expected and other sands I've had. I use the black diamond though, and once cleaned it sits nice and looks good. I just pour it in a 5 gal bucket, shove the hose to the bottom and stir up the sand, rinse until the film is gone and not much sand is floating, seems to never be perfect but your filter can handle some small grains and it'll be clean in your tank after a day or so.

personally i use 5gal bucket and the first week i put Water Polishing Pads in my canister filter
