I use it in 2 of my tanks and love it. I used a paint strainer to clean in. Just put a couple scoops in the strainer, rinse like crazy, put in a 5gal bucket and repeat.
I used black diamond sand from tractor supply to put in my 125g. I was really hot about black sand and wanted to save some money. I rinsed it like crazy. It sure looked nice.
However, I began to notice millions of tiny tendrils or splinter like fibers. These are very tiny. I rinsed all of my sand by hand and only caught 2 of them, quite painful. After working with it in my tank, every once in a while, one would get in my UGJ sponge, Ouch!
My cichlids didn't seem to ever impale themselves on any of them, but the sand sifting was very minimal. I found that all of my scavengers would lose or have their barbs worn down because of the corse material.
I just decided to convert to PFS last week, what a pain! But the fish are much more happy, they told me so...
Not a great pic, and this was right after setting up for first time.
