I have this in my tank with Polys and no issue.

Also have a geophagus and Oscar in there with no issues.

I believe I have the 30-60 grit.

I have no idea what size it is. The bag doesn't say. Still have it in my 60 gallon as well as half a bag in my 130.

I was at TSC yesterday. They were out of the 20/40 which is the bag with black lettering and the 30/60 i believe is the red lettering. I liked the fine course of the 30/60 but the color didn't seem very black it was almost more brown or grey. Did yours seem to be very black out of the bag or is that the dirt? They were out of the 20/40 or i would have checked it out also

This is 20-40 coal slag in my grow out. The grains are no sharper than quartz sand I have 200lbs in the garage for when I do my tank swap

It's partly the dust BC this stuff is REALLY dirty. I rinsed it over a dozen times before putting in my tank. There are occasional specks of brown if you get up close but can't really tell when you take a step back. And for $8 a 50lb bag, it's hard to beat.

Well I finally got motivated enough to remove all my play sand and add the black diamond 20/40 and boy am I glad I did it. The sand looks really good and the grit imo is perfect. I'm glad I didn't get the 30/60

Funny to come across this thread active. I started it over 2 years ago. That tank looks sharp
