Black frontosa?

What can cause a frontosa at 8-9" to be black? It is so dark you can barely distinguish bars. Its not my fish but a fish i saw for sale and i was baffled as to y its black. Any thoughts?

Yea that gravel and yellow water arent helping. I want to buy it but its like 1 hour away. :( but its a front for sure.

I have a Zarie Blue around 8-9in and stays black most of the time but when lights are off is true colors come out. I have to agree change the gravel reminds me sponge bob lol........
