I just got my BGK yesterday and he's acting a bit weird. first of all when I put him in the tank he went straight to the filter and started swimming around it. then he explored the tank for a few seconds, shot back and started swimming vertically at the side of the filter, where he's been ever since. I did witness him shoot across the tank once from my bed but apart from that he's been doing it for half a day, the whole night and all morning today. Is he just a bit stressed?

HAHA no worries they will do that from time to time. I think its a natural kind of camouflage for them. There do that whenever there is light in the tank. tonight after all of the lights are turned off go to your tank and with ur cell phone shine a light in and you will see him be perfectly fine

He's just doing normal knife behavior and chose that spot probable because thats the only type of cover/hiding spot he could find. Try using a piece of PVC pipe or go to your local fish store and explain to them you need some cover for your knife. And he's nocturnal by nature, so hiding with the lights on is completely normal. Not to mention he can swim vertical and upside down........

Put some hiding spots in there for him. Stack some wood together or something like that. He's trying to hide and that's the only place he can find.

Water Parameters? Hiding spots? Lighting?
Not sure about the water parameters, but its aged water and the filter has been running in a different tank for a while. He had no hiding spots, but I've bought a piece of pipe like someone else suggested. still hasn't gone in there though. There is no lighting because I heard they were sensitive to light, but in the day he gets sunlight.

Followed your advice :D I'll wait and see if he goes in the pipe at night.

Yeah that must be it come to think of it. Don't know why I didn't plan better :screwy:

Just give him a chance to find the pipe and once he does he'll probably never leave it till nite time......

they always do act weird, but check water parameters just to be sure.

My ck has plenty of hiding places and he still hangs out vertically all the time. I noticed he does that most over the plants. Kind of looks like he's hunting because if there is a fish in there he will wait over the plants like that until the fish swims in below him. Then he attacks. Obviously thats not the only way he goes after prey but it looks like just one tactic.
