Just for your reassurance, BGKs always act weird like that... They will hide behind anything they find suitable. Once they find a spot, they will usually stick to it and venture out at various times throughout the day.

for the first month i had min he was sucked onto the back of the intank filter...then he started coming out and would swim to my finger when i put it in the water if he was near by....i miss that little guy ;(
