Especially considering that most of the beauty of a knife comes from its fin, I would not risk it. At least for me, even a few bites out of the fin of a knife (which would inevitably happen with those cichlds) would severely compromise the beauty of the fish.

I would also say lose the cichlids, get the BGK but I am rather partial. :)

Agreed about the whole in thing

Thanks everyone for your input. nc_nutcase i like your point of view that was my plan to put in the bgk in first then the rest smallest to biggest. right now i have a 60g, 55g, 20g, 10g running that i'm trying to grow everything out in because can't find to many med cichlids up here and the hope is that everyone will get along better in the long run.

As far as getting a larger tank i have it built for the most part all my pumps, plumming and media sitting here the glass is orderd all i'm waiting on is the pond armor. i'll make a build thread at some point.
I keep thinking a bgk should hold its own and works the night shift more. My understanding is that they can reach 24" if so that is alot bigger then any of my cichlids.

I went with a bgk because i'm trying to keep it all sa/ca and it just came up on kijiji.

bgks work well with cichlids...i have had them with all kinds of cichlids without problems mine were even in my african tank with breeding kenyis and african peacocks....the only fish i have had problems with them were with pbass...they killed on of my pair and the other lives on in the same tank with them...
