Mine loves frozen bloodworms... infact it seems to be all he will eat! Fussy or what... he in 6 months has grown from approx 1 inch to around 5 inches... is this fast?
Only thing, watch them with smaller fish... I keep tetras with him and there has been an eye gone missing about 2 months ago... nothing has happend since though thankfully.

the internet says they grow to about 18" in captivity. ive had mine for 8 months now. bought it when it was about 5 " and its approximately 10" now. but it hasn't grown since then. they are nocturnal and love bloodworms.

Mine reach 12” in about 18 months… mine has lived his entire life in a 300 gal with near pristine water consistently and a strong diet… mine is 12”…

I fully believe that a BGK can reach 18”… just like a human can reach 8’ tall… but expecting your BGK to reach 18” is like expecting your child to reach 8’ tall… possible, but exceptionally unlikely…

(side note- I’ve noticed that since the internet has popped up the average length of most fish has increased considerably… )

HAHAAHAHHHAHA that is so true

I had 1 a while ago that died because it ate the smaller 1. They love blood worm as someone else posted but a word of warning do not feed too many in one go as they will bloat and die and there is nothing you can do about it thats why mine died. But I will have another 1.

Mine's 9-10 inches. Eats pellets and chunks of fish and shrimp.

12" in 18 months, it is now 12". Did you grow from egg? What was the size when you first got it?

i dont think he meant it grew 12 inches in 18 months, but that he has had it for 18 months and it's 12 inches now.

Our BGKnife LOVES frozen Bloodworms and pellets. My spouse thought he was about 13 or 14 years old, but my sister-in-law paralelled his life to some event and she figures he is about 16 years of age. I've only had him in my life about 18 months and for the last few months have been feeding him by hand. At first he would take off to his cave, now he rubs against my hands and shoves my fingers out of the way if he wants to get a bigger chunk of the pellet. He's in a 75 gal tank with various smaller fish that were already in this tank. He's eats any new tetras, sunbursts etc that I tried to add for colour. Since the hand feeding, I find that he is out of his cave so much more. He lazes around on top of the ornaments and likes to have the bubbles from our system run along his bottom fin. Pretty mezmorizing.

like a creature of the night.. it feeds on the blood and meat of the blood worms.. hehe... whenever its blood worm time my BGk really gobbles it.. its like their weakness or something hehe
