Black Ghost knife

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have heard that they are NOT easy to breed at all. There are some sketchy accounts of breeding:

and here:

They are egg layers. I have heard of them being bred in ponds in Florida too.

I've never heard of them breeding in someones aquarium, but I think it would be awesome to see. However, you're not supposed to keep two of them together in the same tank (because of the electrical current that they give off), so to breed them, you'd need a lot of space to keep them from driving each other nuts.

I suspect that some of these breeding accounts involve giving them hormones to get them in the 'mood'. Asian breeders are especially known for their use of hormones.

A little research in the net would probably turn up more accounts.

windsurfer.

oh i see they give off eletrical currents,no wonder 6 of my black ghost knife all died the next day seem that i didnt do my homework

The man that supplies me with them breeds them here ih good ol miami :D:D dont know his secret but i get the 2" babies. He has said one thing though ....that you they need space and privacy. I have no idea what he means :screwy:

Hi folks..need some help here. My 2 ghost fish have been upto no good and produced a baby! Looking at pics iv'e found on the net i would guess it's a week old. I've got it seperated from the rest of the fish now but i am struggling to know what to feed it. I've gone a week now feeding it crushed bloodworm and liqyfry for egg layers. I don't think i can get the bloodworm crushed small enough for it though and i am not sure wether it's feeding or not. Anyone any ideas?

As in one?... sounds unlikely... care to share some pics?

No, one is not unilikely.
I have a mate here who i buy fish off who had his pair breed and only one baby survived.

I only found this one by accident when i went to clean my tank. Thinking that they were live bearers, not egg layers as i found out afterwards, i carried on with the clean and ofcourse syphoning the gravel..perhaps if i had left it for another week then i may have had more. Perhaps there was more and had not survived with the other fish in the tank.

But..my question still stands..can anyone help with feeding info for this young one?
