Hello!
I recently set up a 55 gallon planted tank. Water parameters are finally ideal and everything seems to be going well. I have two giant gold gouramis, 2 red velvet swordtails, a nerite snail, two gold algae eaters, a senegal bichir and a black ghost knife (last two are both very small still...3 inches tops).
The bichir and ghost have only been present for about a week. The tank bully is definately one of the gouramis. He chases and bites the other gourami and the swordtails, but he had yet to bother the ghost.
This morning I noticed that the very end of the ghost's tail has been bitten off. I fed him some shrimp pellets in one of his hiding places (he has several created by rocks & logs) and he ate. He's also been well fed with defrosted frozen bloodworms.
However, I'm concerned about him surviving this injury. I've been told the ghost's tail is a weak electrical organ that helps him find food. It's just the very end of his tail, you can still see the first white stripe.
Help! Will he be ok? And yes I plan on removing the bully and possibly putting him alone in my 20 gallon upstairs...and of course when the ghost and bichir get bigger they will get a really big tank
