Black Jack Dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I purchased a 2" female that is identical to yours, now she's around 4-5" and still has primarily black coloring. I hope she doesn't change.

I posted about my Black JD months ago...i too found her in a tank of 1" fry, she was the only black one:eek:...people on here assured me it would lighten up with age or less stress:popcorn:.... well guess what!!!! its now 4-4.5" and still jet black just like yours:headbang2....it has blue spangles that glow in the light:drool:.... she too has never changed color maybe 2-3 times for a few housr to a dark charcoal grey:confused:..... i honestly think it is a new gene mutation:naughty:....or possibly a JD with a mood dissorder:screwy:...lol...those are my theories.... but good luck with yours:grinno:!!! i'm attempting to breed more blacks but have to grow her out a little more first....;)

I have seen these jet black jack dempseys before.. They look awesome!

Its been awhile since i've seen one in person tho.. most were at Petsmart and they had them HUGE.. at 5-6" but for 8.99 not a bad price...

If i do see one tho.. i think i will get it.. but ya.. nice looking fish!

I've had a JD like that from a baby and grew him to 6". they get nice deep blue coloring..

That's actually where I got mine - and they seemed to have a bunch of them still to this day.

just a juvie... nice color though

Nothing special pretty common actually that is just a female JD in a mood they can turn black like that when stressed angry or some times for seemingly no reason when young
