Black jardini

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I never seen one that dark, wonder if it's dark from stress. BTW welcome to MFK

Nice jar , I'm not sure its stress as its very very dark , it could be the real deal a black jardini or it could have had bwt and recently been housed in a lighter tank , it it your jardini in the pics ?

Yes it's my jardini, and your right about the "recently been housed in a lighter tank" , I moved the fish about a month ago

Nice to see another fellow jardini keeper on board :)

Was the jardini black when you bought it ? And at what size ?
They turn black due to there dark surroundings its called black water treatment , the same can be done with white "wwt" to make the aro lighter in colour.
Some breeders/shops use this process to try and make the aro look like something it isn't "a rare fish" this way they can cash in on normal priced fish charging way over the odds.
Owners also use this process to make the fish as light or dark as they want , but once moved to another tank it will change to its surroundings once again.
That's a nice looking fish you've got there thanks for posting , look forward to updates on his progress

It was 3 inch when I brought it, and it's been 2 months now, and the fish was not as dark when I brought it. U mentioned "wwt " can u tell me a bit more about what white water treatment is?

Woah has it turned that dark in two months ? That's happened quickly howdark was the tank it was moved to ? Any lights during daytime ?
I'm no expert on the "wwt" as I've never tried it with ay of my jardini mine are usually in a tank with black back , sides and bottom, but people use "wwt" to try and mimic platinum or albino aros that are worth more money as there a rarer fish , basically it aro is kept in a tank with high white shine on back , bottom , and sides sometimes with an intense white light also (its a lot like tanning an Asian aro with tanning lights ) this makes the fish lighten in colour dramatically making it look more platinum to the untrained eye , few of these guys with genuine platinums would spot it a mile of though :D
